At first the building was named the “Fuller” building, but over the years New Yorkers began to call it “The Flatiron” because the building looks very much like the plates of the time.

American Radiator Building

The American Radiator Building is a building that was designed and built to stand out in New York. From its design to its conception, this skyscraper is a jewel of architecture, its mixture of Gothic and Art Deco styles gives it that dramatic personality that makes it shine.

The black brick it was built from symbolizes coal and its gold-colored decorations symbolize fire, giving the building the solidity necessary to inspire a painting by the artist Georgia O’Keeffe.
